Healthy communities depend on volunteers like you!

Neighbors Who Care invites you to enhance the quality of life of homebound elders in the greater Waltham, Massachusetts community by donating your time as a Volunteer. Because we provide free services to those at risk, we rely heavily on the participation of volunteers.

Why Choose Neighbors Who Care?

Volunteering with Neighbors Who Care gives you the oppurtunity to have a direct positive impact on a person in your community. You will have the chance to help a neighbor maintain or regain their independence while forming a lasting friendship. The skills and time committment needed of a volunteer are not extensive, but each volunteer will be able to see how the gift of time is neccessary to those assisted.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with activities of daily living
  • Transporting and escorting to medical and/or hospital appointments
  • Friendly visiting
  • Assisting with shopping and errands
  • Telephone assistance
  • Referring and connecting to community agencies and programs
  • Assisting with reading and writing letters

Note: Responsibilities may vary from client to client, but the above list are the most common activities that volunteers participate in.

Time Commitment

3-5 hours per month.

Qualifications

  • Mature adult who is empathetic, compassionate, and able to get along and work with others
  • Flexible, adaptible, and willing to learn
  • Comfortable with sick, elderly, and disabled
